Radiographic Testing (RT)

Radiographic Testing (RT) is a method of non-destructive testing (NDT) in which X-ray or gamma sources are used to analyze the internal structures of objects and detect possible defects or flaws.

For Radiographic Testing, the object to be tested is located between the radiation source and the detector. The detector can be a conventional film, an imaging plate or a digital detector array/flat panel detector. Radiographic Testing is divided into RT-F, which stands for film, and RT-D, which stands for digital techniques.

In traditional Radiographic Testing (RT-F), the developed X-ray films are analyzed using a film viewer.

In digital Radiographic Testing (RT-D), the digital X-ray images are analyzed using a monitor with the assistance of software. In RT-D there are several imaging methods available, Computed Radiography (CR), Digital Direct Radiography (DR) and Computed Tomography (CT).

The most common areas of application are weld seam inspection, erosion and corrosion inspection, casting and composite material testing.
