Computed Radiography

Computed Radiography (CR) is the production of a digital image by using a Phosphor Imaging Plate (IP) in place of conventional film.

Key advantaged of CR include:
– IP's are re-usable
– No dark room or chemicals required
– Exposure and process times reduced
– Easy work flow and image optimisation with D-Tect software
– Simple to share digital information and archive

The CR technology consists of a 3-step process
The Image (storage) Plate (IP) is exposed with X-ray or Gamma radiation, which causes the IP phosphor layer in the plate to store the X-ray image. During the reading process of the plate in the scanner, a focused laser beam triggers the release of the stored image data in the form of visible light. The emitted light is detected, captured, and converted into electrical signals which are digitized and fi nally displayed as a digital image on the PC monitor. The internal in-line eraser purges the residual data from the IP, which is then ready for the next exposure.

What is important in deciding to use CR?
Especially in the IED / EOD area, with a variety of object, the size of the storage plate, and therefore the available exposure area, is very important. Images must gather all the information in minimal time so that the additional disposal steps can be executed as fast as possible. Mobility and portability are important.

Rapid deployment to the site, with consideration and awareness of the surroundings and its terrain is critical for a successful mission.

Ultimately, the specific situation the bomb squad finds itself in, must be considered. The software must be simple, and has to produce a reliable result on which security based decisions can be made in shortest time.

Why CR-Technology from DÜRR NDT
DÜRR NDT is committed to deliver products perfectly tailored to meet the needs of the market.

Through the continuous optimisation of existing products and development of new solutions, DÜRR NDT has rapidly become one of the market leaders in non- destructive testing.

Exposure

After positioning the imaging plate or Quad Plate (for large objects), the object is exposed using a portable X-ray source.

Exposure

Scanning

After the exposure, the Bomb technician insert the exposed plate(s) into the scanner and automatically image will appear on the monitor.

Interpretation

Analysis of the image using software and embedded aids, such as filters, measurement tools, etc.
